Chair

Chair with profiled openwork backrest produced in 1930s by THONET company – model A 1040. They were originally equipment of the Zakłady Południowe (Southern Works), renamed after World War II to Huta Stalowa Wola steelworks. They are made of beech wood, and the parts are connected with screws. A walnut veneer was used as the finish. The wavy line of the openwork backrest perfectly matches the slightly curved legs. The history of THONET company is connected to a Viennese technologist and designer Michael Thonet, who was a precursor of the beech wood forming method. The followers of the tradition he had started – August, Josef, Michael and Jakob Thonet – began to establish furniture factories in Europe. One of them was established in Poland – Fabryka Mebli Giętych „Bracia Thonet” (The Bent Furniture Factory "Thonet Brothers") in Radomsko.
